Welcome Back
We extend a warm welcome to all of our Kenmore South families (both new and existing) to the 2025 school year. We have seen many Positive Agile Learners (PALs) in action during the first couple of weeks, and certainly appreciate the support of our families and broader community – our Positive Agile Community (PACs) in the successful start to the school year. These frameworks underpin a culture of positive disposition to learning, wellbeing and support at Kenmore South. We are looking forward to a successful and fulfilling year.

Building Works Updates
As many of you are aware, we have had just over 12 months of building works conducted on our site. To date we have had the following works completed:
Renovation of C Block (Year 2 and 3 classrooms)
K Block – the new building near the Hall consisting of 11 classrooms, STEM room, Art room, staffrooms and collaborative learning spaces, as well as a new courtyard to the Hall.
Kersley Road Stop Drop and Go area
We are also pleased that the D Block renovations were completed over the Christmas holidays and some of our Years 3 and 4 students could move in from the beginning of the school year. The demolition of the old Year 4 block will occur over the coming weeks. Asbestos removal from this building occurred in weekends over the Christmas holiday period. This site will see the extension of the Tiger Turf area, new retaining walls and outdoor play area below. The stairwell to the Kersley Road Stop, Drop and Go is now open, and additional line markings have been added. The playground near the Amphitheatre is due for completion in a couple of weeks and will see the reinstatement of the spiderweb playground that used to be on the site of K Block. Carpark 2 (Kersley Road will then be reinstated and the internal road running along the eastern boundary of the school will be re-laid. We are excited about the improvements to our school and the legacy for students to enjoy for many years to come.

Welcome to PCYC!
We warmly welcome PCYC as our new OSHC provider. PCYC commenced over the Vacation period and the Activities Centre is looking inviting with a range of new furniture and equipment for the students to enjoy. Information about PCYC and how to register can be found in this newsletter or on the school’s website. We look forward to a positive relationship with our new OSHC provider.

The Parent Representatives assist the teacher in the preparation of events such as wreathes for ANZAC Day, organise World Teacher’s Day acknowledgements and end of year tributes, foster community engagement to volunteer at P&C events and arranging class events/play dates outside of school hours.
Volunteer Training Session
Any parent interested in volunteering throughout the school year are welcome to attend a training session on the 14th of February, at 9:00am.

QParents
QParents is a secure, online portal that has been created by the Department of Education to provide parents of Queensland state school students with 24-hour access to their child's information. The portal allows parents to securely access information about your child including: attendance details, report cards, invoices and payment history. Through QParents users can register their child’s absence, update changes to their address and other contact details and make payments.
The office will be emailing all families not already enrolled in the system, with the link to nominate to join QParents shortly - follow the link to register!!
Please contact the school office if you need further information.
Below are a few guides that may be helpful with getting you started.
Before School
A reminder that supervision for students is provided from 8:30am. Students who arrive prior to that time are to sit in the Covered Play Area (CPA) near the Library. The parents of students who regularly arrive to school very early will be asked to either drop their child off later or enrol their child in Before School Care through OSHC.
We ask that all Prep students are dropped off and collected by an adult at the classroom until the end of Semester 1.
Parking
Parents and Caregivers are asked to be respectful of parking in and around our school community. Please take note of the following parking arrangements on Strathspey Street (Prep Entrance):
- Yellow line on the inside corner opposite the Prep entrance to improve compliance.
- Loading zone and addition of 2:00-3:10pm no stopping restriction to discourage early queuing from parents. The 2 minute loading zone means parents cannot get out of their car and take their child into the school.
- No parking to accommodate queuing. Parents may stop to pick up or drop off passengers for up to two minutes but must not leave the vehicle.
- Use of cones by the school.
Please refer to the image below for further detail:

Please see below examples of the Queensland Transport definition of no stopping and no parking and a link for further information about school dropoff/pick up zones:

Please take note of the parking arrangements at Kersley Road:

- Carpark 1 (Via Gate 1, 16 Kersley Road) now includes a Stop, Drop and Go Zone for families to drop off/pick up their child/ren.
- Entrance and Exit to and from the Stop Drop and Go Zone is Kersley Road.
- Stop, Drop and Go Zone is a 2-minute pick up/drop off zone only, available before 9am and after 3pm. Parents will be asked to move their car on after 2 minutes. They may choose to complete another circuit of the carpark or exit and re-enter at a later time.
- Carparks within the area are for staff use only, unless using the Accessibility carpark with the appropriate permit
- In the afternoons, students will gather in the top gate collection area near the Administration Block and will be called by the staff member on duty when their parent’s vehicle arrives at one of the 5 pickup bays, to make their way to their car.
- Parents will be issued with a sign with their surname on it to be placed on the passenger side visor of the car, so that the staff member can call out the student’s name ready to make their way to the car.
- Pedestrian access to the school is via the western pedestrian gate (on the high side of the hill) so that students do not have to cross the driveway area if coming from the Kenmore Road end of Kersley Road. Alternatively, students may access via the existing front Main Entrance gate or Gate 2 (which is currently a fenced walkway through to the Tiger Turf).
- Families may also enter/exit via the other existing access points to the school.
- Parents may still elect to collect their child/ren from the existing 2-minute zone on Kersley Road.
- Cars are expected to keep the road area in front of the drive clear at all times.
- Of course, Active School Travel is always preferred and encouraged!
Understanding School Roles: P&C and School Council Explained
As we embark on another exciting year of learning and growth at Kenmore South State School, it's essential to understand the unique roles and responsibilities of the school, the Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association, and the School Council. Each plays a vital part in creating a thriving educational community for our children.
1. The School: Nurturing Learning Environments
At the heart of our community is Kenmore South State School, where our dedicated teachers and staff work tirelessly to create a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment. The primary responsibilities of the school include:
Educational Excellence: Providing quality education that nurtures the intellectual, social, and emotional development of our students.
Safety and Well-being: Ensuring the safety and well-being of all students while on the school premises.
Curriculum Implementation: Designing and delivering a curriculum that aligns with educational standards and caters to the diverse needs of our students.
Communication: Keeping parents informed about school activities, academic progress, and any important updates.
2. The Parents and Citizens' (P&C) Association: A Vital Link
The P&C association is a vital link between parents, the community, and the school. Its roles and responsibilities include:
Operational Responsibilities: Managing and operating the School Uniform Shop and Tuckshop, known as the Lunchbox, providing a convenient and accessible service for parents, students and school staff.
Fundraising: Organising events and activities to raise funds that support additional resources, infrastructure improvements, and educational enhancements.
Community Engagement: Fostering a sense of community by organising social events and creating opportunities for parents to connect.
Advocacy: Representing the collective voice of parents in discussions with the school on matters affecting the school community.
Volunteer Support: Encouraging and coordinating parent volunteers to assist with various school activities.
Membership and Voting: To receive P&C communications and have voting rights, parents and community citizens must be voted in as P&C members. There is no cost to be a P&C member. This democratic process ensures that the P&C represents the diverse voices of our school community.
3. The School Council: Collaborative Decision-Making
The School Council plays a crucial role in shaping the overall direction of the school. Its key responsibilities involve:
Strategic Planning: Collaborating with school leadership to develop and implement long-term plans for the school's growth and improvement.
Budget Oversight: Reviewing and approving the school budget, ensuring financial resources are allocated effectively.
Policy Development: Contributing to the development and review of school policies that align with educational goals and community values.
It's important to note that while the school, P&C, and School Council have distinct roles, they work together synergistically to create a positive and enriching learning environment for our children.
As parents, your involvement in both the P&C and attendance at School Council meetings can contribute significantly to the success of our school community. Your support, collaboration, and engagement are invaluable in ensuring that Kenmore South continues to be a place where our children thrive.
Important P&C Announcement: AGM and Executive Nominations
We are excited to announce that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the Parents and Citizens (P&C) association will be held on Tuesday 19 March this year. At this meeting, all Executive positions will be open for new nominations. The current P&C Executive encourages our community to consider these positions for the 2024/25 term.
Why Consider a P&C Executive Role?
Make a Difference: As a member of the P&C Executive, you have the opportunity to actively contribute to shaping the direction and initiatives of our school community.
Build Relationships: Connect with fellow parents, teachers, and the broader community, fostering a sense of belonging and collaboration.
Develop Leadership Skills: Serving in an Executive role provides valuable experience in leadership, decision-making, and project management.
Support Your Child's Education: Your involvement directly impacts the resources and opportunities available to your child and their peers.
Strengthen Community Ties: Executive roles allow you to play a key role in organising events, fundraisers, and activities that bring our positive agile community together.
AGM Details:
Date: Tuesday 18 March 2025
Time: 7pm
Location: Staffroom (Admin block)
Your participation in the AGM and consideration of Executive roles are crucial for the continued success of our P&C association and, by extension, our school. We look forward to your involvement and the positive impact we can make together.
Thank you for being an integral part of our Kenmore South family!

Principal’s Lunch
In 2025 every fortnight one student is selected from the year level cohort to attend a special Lunch with the Principal on the Friday. This initiative celebrates your child and their engagement with our school community. One student from each year level is selected every week in recognition of either individual social and emotional growth, academic progress, being a PAL - positive agile learner, or being a kind friend to peers. The seven selected students will have their lunch with Mrs Allardice and/or other members of the Leadership Team.
Each student selected is able to select any first break items on the attached tuckshop menu up to a value of $10 to be delivered on Friday at 11am in Modular 1 Building (next to the Staffroom).

Medical Conditions
Just a reminder to all parents to please submit all details of new or updated medical conditions and, if necessary, their associated plans, to the school office, not your child’s teacher. All medication and medical conditions need to be updated for the school annually. Once uploaded onto the school system, all relevant staff members will be advised.
Warm regards,
Nat Thomas
Junior Years Deputy Principal News
Dear Kenmore South Families,
As we embark on a new school year, it’s important to allow time for students to readjust to school routines and expectations. The first few weeks are all about settling in, and our dedicated staff have been working hard to set students up for success by explicitly teaching the routines that will support their learning and well-being. Equally important is the role parents play in re-establishing good habits and routines at home, particularly after the more relaxed schedules of the summer break. Ensuring consistent bedtimes, healthy eating, and organised school preparations all contribute to a smooth transition back into learning.
This transition is particularly significant for our new Prep students, who are experiencing school life for the first time. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of our staff who are playing a part in establishing a positive school culture for all of our Prep students in their first days of school. To the rest of our teachers and staff throughout the school including our brilliant ladies who make up our office team- your dedication in fostering positive relationships with our students and community is unwavering and adds the magic to our school— and experience tells us that these early efforts will lay the foundation for a successful year ahead.
Finally, a warm welcome to all new families joining the Kenmore South community, especially those with Prep students who are beginning their first days of school. At Kenmore South, we truly believe that it takes a village to nurture strong, resilient children, and we are honoured to be part of your child’s education.
As the days roll into weeks and weeks into months, I look forward to a wonderful year of learning, growth, and community connection for us all!
Starting strong in Prep
It has been wonderful to see so many of our Prep students already settling into school life and daily routines. These routines, especially the morning transitions, play a key role in setting students up for success each day.
Our Prep team puts in an incredible effort to plan, organise, and deliver quality learning and fine motor experiences during this time to help engage students and smoothly transition them into the classroom. To further support their independence, we kindly ask that from the beginning of Week 3, parents endeavour to drop students at the door rather than entering the room. This small change will help our Preps build confidence and independence as they start their school day. Of course, there will be times when you may need to enter at this time, but we ask for your assistance with this as we aim to build that next level of independence and fostering of these important early habits.
Kind regards,
Andrew Sellick

P&C Update for 2025: Exciting Projects, Events, and More!
Welcome back to the Kenmore South State School community as we embark on an exciting 2025! There’s plenty happening with the P&C this year, and we’re thrilled to share some important updates and upcoming events.
Firstly, if you’re keen to get involved with the P&C this year, 2025 membership forms are now available upon request. Simply contact our P&C Secretary, Meagan, at pandc_secretary@kenmoresouthss.eq.edu.au to get yours.
Looking ahead, don’t forget about the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, 18 March 2025 at 7pm in the school staffroom. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents, learn more about what the P&C does, and share your ideas. We encourage all families to attend, and we’re also accepting nominations for the 2025 Executive Committee. Self-nominations are welcome, and forms are available from Meagan. Make sure your nominations are in before the AGM!
We are excited to welcome Mechelle Heritage as our new Lunchbox Convener. The P&C are thrilled to have someone with Mechelle’s extensive retail experience and passion for community service leading the way. See Qkr! for exciting menu updates.
A big welcome also goes out to PCYC, who have joined Kenmore South State School. We are looking forward to working with them on various initiatives this year, starting with the 2025 Welcome BBQ. This fun-filled event will take place on Friday, 21 February 2025, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. All families are invited to come along and enjoy the evening! Food Trucks, face painting, music, and bar! Please note this is a cashless event.
Thank you to Mia and Sachiko Polak for stepping in to manage the Uniform Shop while Kenneth is on leave. We appreciate the community’s patience as we work through some low stock issues. The Year 6 senior shirts have arrived and look fantastic on the students, and we’ll be placing another order soon.
In terms of major projects, the P&C is proud to announce a donation of approximately $130,000 to the school in 2025. These funds will support a number of exciting improvements, including:
- Nature Play Upgrading: Astro turfing, landscaping, and re-planting – $50,000
- CPA and Prep-Year 1 Seating: Upgrading benches to aluminium and adding new seating – $40,000 ($20,000 per area)
- Yarning Circle: Constructing a yarning circle using timber from the front carpark trees – $15,000
- Cricket Nets and Pitch Upgrade: Improving the surfacing of cricket nets and pitch – $30,000
We also have an update on the Design a Brick fundraiser. An email will be sent out soon to all families who purchased bricks in 2024. This email will include a link to an electronic form, allowing families to specify what they would like engraved on their bricks. Families will have three lines available, with a maximum of 17 characters per line. We thank everyone for their patience with this process, as we wanted to ensure it was inclusive of new families joining the school this year.
For all regular P&C updates, follow and please LIKE our Facebook page.
Lastly, we want to extend a huge thank you to Michelle, Heather, and Meagan for their tireless service to the P&C over the past two years. It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside these amazing women, who have juggled full-time work while making invaluable contributions to our school community.
We wish the Kenmore South staff and families an incredible start to 2025 and look forward to seeing many of you at our events throughout the year!
