Principal’s News
As we approach the end of Term One, I would like to extend my thanks to our dedicated teachers, hardworking students, and supportive families for the fabulous effort you have all contributed to, ensuring a positive and productive start to 2025.
It has been wonderful to walk through our classrooms and witness the enthusiasm and commitment of our students as they engage in their learning, challenge themselves, and achieve their ‘new best’. Across the school, there are wonderful displays showcasing their achievements.
We are proud of our students and all they have accomplished this term. As the holidays begin, I hope they take the opportunity to reflect on their progress, relax, and enjoy a well-deserved break before returning refreshed for Term Two.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 22 April, for another exciting term of learning and growth.
Prep 2026 Enrolments Open
It is hard to believe that we are in the planning stages for Prep 2026 already! Prep enrolments for 2026 are now open and we invite any interested families to enrol their eligible Prep-aged child. Whilst it may seem like some time away, there are a number of events in the lead-up that we like to invite prospective families to attend. Current families with a child starting Prep next year are also asked to enrol early. Our Prep 2026 Parent Information Night is being held on Tuesday 24 June at 6pm in the Library. Of course, as always, we host termly Tour and Talk visits on Week 7 Thursdays at 9:30am, where anyone is welcome to tour the school and find out more about our wonderful community!
ANZAC Day
At Kenmore South State School we will be holding a special ANZAC Assembly at 9:30am on Thursday 24 April in the Hall (third day back in Term 2). Students and parents are encouraged to bring in flowers and foliage for the making of wreaths on the Thursday morning for presentation during the Assembly. ANZAC Day ribbons will be available already for sale and will continue to be sold until ANZAC Day. All funds raised go to the RSL.
Additionally, students are invited to participate in the local service to commemorate ANZAC Day. Our school will be represented by our school captains and student leaders as well as members of the Student Council. These students are required to attend as part of their duties as our school leaders. Other Kenmore South State School students are also invited to participate. Our school captains will lay a wreath on behalf of all members of our school community.
Outgoing P&C Executive Thanks
I would like to take some time to acknowledge the efforts of the outgoing P&C Executive - Peta Wilson, Heather Reid, Michelle Dehlen and Meagan Duran. These wonderful parents have led the P&C very successfully over the past two years, ensuring the finalisation of the previously P&C run OSHC, and current tuckshop and uniform shop operations. Additionally, they have run a successful school fete, discos, welcome nights, barbeques, trivia nights and more. These parents, whilst all holding full time jobs, have contributed significantly to our school. Their time, efforts and passion have been much appreciated!
Staffing Updates
Mrs Carmel Ross has extended her leave into Term 2 and Mrs Tonya Watson will be teaching the 2D class until she returns. Ms Kyle Lobo, 6A has taken a position at another education centre and Mrs Krista Nash will teach the 6A class from Term 2 until the end of the year. Mr Mitch Hagger has requested, and been successful, in a transfer to the Mackay region to be closer to family. We will miss his vibrancy and musical talent and wish him all the best. Mr James McErlain and Ms Jenny Dickie will pick up Mr Haggar’s days.
Warm regards

Term 1 Gala Day - rescheduled to Term 2
An update about our Term 1 Gala Day - the participating schools have found a mutually agreeable time and confirmed a new date. The Term 1 Gala Day has been rescheduled to Wednesday 4 June (Week 7). Our Term 2 Gala Day will be on Wednesday 21 May (Week 5). We look forward to two great days of sport next term and hope for good weather!
Wearable (Smartwatch) Devices
Staff have noticed that more students are coming to school wearing smart watches or fitness trackers, and are not signing them into the office before school. Just a reminder to all parents and students about our wearable devices policy:
Students are not permitted to wear wearable devices and smartwatches during school hours. Students may sign the wearable devices in at the office by 9:00am and collect them at 3:00pm if they wish to bring one to school. Wearable devices include smartwatches and fitness trackers. Wearable devices may be approved by a principal or teacher as a reasonable adjustment for student health considerations. The Student Code of Conduct will be applied for misuse of wearable devices.
We appreciate your support with this.
Warm regards,
Nat Thomas

Dear Kenmore South Families,
As we wrap up what has been a big term of learning, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible effort our students have put into their learning. Equally, I would like to acknowledge the hard work of all of our staff in supporting our students.
With the Easter break upon us, I wish you all a restful and enjoyable time with family and friends if you are fortunate to have this time. We look forward to seeing many of you at our P-2 Easter Bonnet Parade on Friday morning.
Our Prep to Year 6 Cross Country has been postponed due to weather and grounds conditions, taking place on Wednesday 23 April.
Wishing you all a wonderful Easter break!

Head of Curriculum News

This year, we are again offering the ICAS assessments for students in Years 2 – 6.
What is ICAS?
ICAS is an online academic competition that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee, and Digital Technologies.
ICAS results are in-depth and meaningful, and ICAS evaluates student performance against other competition entrants across the state and nation. The data reveals student strengths and weaknesses and can help you recognise and support your child's academic journey.
Learn more about ICAS here: (icasassessments.com/products-icas/).
ICAS results and certificate
Every student who participates is celebrated and recognised with a printed certificate in each subject area, and an online results report to track development each year. Top performers are eligible for one of the highly coveted ICAS medals.
Your child’s ICAS certificates will show their results and the login details, “TAP ID and Pin”. - Use these to enter the Results Portal (https://orti.icasassessments.com/ortiStudent).

P & C News

My name is Clint and I have just taken over the role as President of the KSSS P&C. As such, the new executive members and I thought it might be nice to introduce ourselves a little and let you know what drives us and the goals we hope to achieve during our time in these roles.
The new P&C Executive team is committed to fostering a warm, inclusive, and diverse school community—one where every child feels safe, supported, and encouraged to thrive. Our goal is to ensure that students receive the best possible education and a strong foundation for high school and beyond.
We are also dedicated to supporting our incredible teachers by providing them with the resources and assistance they need to continue delivering high-quality education.
