Principal’s News
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that you all enjoyed the Easter break with your families and had some time for rest and relaxation. As we begin our new term, we look forward to what can be achieved with many wonderful events and activities - academic, sporting and cultural. Our students are fortunate to be given these opportunities to enhance their learning. Thank you to our families and P&C for your ongoing support of our students and our school.
Please support our P&C this weekend by purchasing a sausage at the Election Day BBQ at the Hall on Saturday 3 May. Also upcoming is the wonderful Mother’s Day Stall- a great opportunity to purchase some special gifts for mums or other special people in our students’ lives. And, of course, the annual Trivia Night is upcoming on Saturday 7 June, with tables available for purchase. Please see the P&C section of the newsletter for further information on these events.
Road Safety
Schools are busy areas especially around drop off and pick up times. At Kenmore South we are working closely with our council to ensure that the streets around our school are kept safe, through safe parking and stop drop and go zones. It would be appreciated if parents could take extra care when parking on the roads and streets around our school and follow the signed parking rules.
Parents are asked to take particular note of the parking signage in and around Strathspey and Glen Carron Streets. We have had a number of complaints from our neighbours about parents blocking driveways, exhibiting unsafe driving and parking behaviours and generally being inconsiderate of others. One of the school rules we teach our students is to Be Respectful’. We also ask that parents model this behaviour for their children. Drop off and pick up areas are signed with Passenger Loading and No Standing Zone signs or 2 Minute parking signs. These signs mean you have a maximum of 2 minutes to drop off and collect your child.
Our pick up and drop off areas, where parking is not allowed, are a safe and fast way to collect the students from school. Below I have provided information from the Queensland Government Department of Transport on ‘How to use the drop-off and pick up zones’. Please read through this information and discuss with your child/ren.
When using this area vehicles should:-
- use the area like a quick moving taxi rank
- move forward in the queue of vehicles to the signed area
- adults can get out of the vehicle to quickly help your child get in and out safely - once in the signed area, however you must not walk away from your vehicle
- only allowed 2 minutes in the signed area - if you take any longer you can possibly be fined. If your child is not ready to get straight into your vehicle at pick up time, you should drive around the block and queue to enter the area again.
- Only let your child out of the car once you have pulled into the signed area - it is dangerous to let them out while waiting in a queue
- teach your child to look out for your vehicle and to get in quickly when you pull up
- must enter the queue from driving front in - never reverse
- Please be patient and ensure that you take the time to ensure the safety of our students.
Warm regards
Georgina Allardice

Junior Years Deputy Principal News
Dear Kenmore South families,
Welcome to Week 2 of the term!
In Junior School news, we are excitedly preparing for our upcoming Under 8s Day on Friday, 23 May. This year, the theme for Under Eights Week 2025 is: ‘Unleashing Scientific Thinking through Play’. This aligns with the United Nations’ declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. At Kenmore South, we look forward to celebrating with our Prep to Year 2 staff, students, families and local community. Our team at school is busily planning engaging, hands-on activities that encourage children to observe, predict, explore and discover scientific concepts — all through the power of child-led play. We can’t wait to welcome our P–2 families, community and local kindergartens for what promises to be a wonderful morning of curiosity, creativity and discovery!
In other news, we look forward to the Winter Music concert on 19 June from 6-8pm (T2, Week 9) that our strings and band students will be performing. Be sure to ‘save the date’ for what will be another wonderful showcase of student musical talent!
Warm regards,
Andrew
