Facilities
As per recent email communication we are celebrating the good news that all of the major building works have now been completed, including K Block and Carpark 2, as well as the internal road on the eastern side of the school.
It is important to note that teachers will be using the internal road for staff carparking at Carpark 2 and under K Block from Wednesday. This is a one-way road from the Gate 2 entrance at Kersley Road through to K Block and then Gate 3 at Glencarron Street. CARPARK 2 and the INTERNAL ROAD IS ONLY FOR STAFF USE.
There are also some changes to eating areas with the old E Block (Old Year 4 Block) redevelopment complete.
After more than 2 years since the initial planning stages, these major capital works have been completed. We are so fortunate to have had the following works undertaken during this time:
- Renovation of C Block
- Renovation of D Block
- K Block new build including 11 new classrooms, STEM room, Art Room, Staffroom, End of Trip facilities, toilets and collaborative learning spaces
- Accessibility ramp from K Block to the Oval
- K Block courtyard between K Block and Hall
- Demolition of E Block and subsequent eating and play area upgrades
- Stop, Drop and Go Zone near Administration Building
- Carpark 2 upgrade including internal road modifications
- Relocation of playground to near Prep C and D
Under a different project we are also currently having our 3 older Prep classrooms revamped with new carpets, internal and external painting, bathroom upgrades and new glass doors.
Kenmore South is fortunate to receive these infrastructure upgrades to ensure our students have a modern learning environment for now and into the years to come. An official opening of K Block will occur this term, with a date still to be determined. Whilst there has been some disruption due to these works, I would like to acknowledge our Positive Agile Learners, Teachers and Community (PALs, PATs and PACs) for being flexible and understanding.

School Supervisor Visit
Our School Supervisor, Evan Willis, visited the school at the end of last term as part of a Collaborative School Improvement (CSI) round with other local principals. We received very positive comments on our progress, with reading in particular, as well as the engaged students and calm classrooms. We are very proud of the work our teachers continue to be immersed in, to improve learning outcomes for students.
Teaching and Learning
Teachers have been immersed in a range of Professional Development opportunities to build their capability in line with our strategic plan, including Essential Skills for Behaviour Management, Beginner Teacher Professional Development, Reading and PLD training, Version 9.0 Australian Curriculum Professional Development implementation, the Australian Inclusive Schools Conference, Middle Leaders’ Workshops and more.
The Leadership team are attending the Queensland Association of State School Principal’s (QASSP) State Conference this week, was well as being involved in a Regional Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) surrounding Reading.
Calendar Events
Some of the upcoming key events for the term include Chappy Pancake breakfast, Under 8s Day, Gala Days, Tour and Talk, Athletics Carnival and Sports Days, Winter Music Concert and Prep 2026 Parent Information Night. All dates are available on the school website calendar.
Prep 2026 Enrolments
Enrolments for Prep 2026 are now well underway and we encourage any families with a prep aged child to enrol early. Our Prep 2026 Parent Information Night will be held on Tuesday 24 June (Week 10) at 6pm in the Library. Please share this news with neighbours and friends as well.
Election Sausage Sizzle, Mother’s Day Stall and Trivia Night
We would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of our P&C volunteers and families who have worked away busily behind the scenes preparing for the recent Mother’s Day Stall and Election Sausage Sizzle, as well as the upcoming Trivia Night. These events are such an asset to Kenmore South and promote community engagement and participation, as well as providing much valued funds to the school. Please read more about P&C events and activities in the P&C section of this newsletter.

Junior Years Deputy Principal News
Dear Kenmore South Families,
Reflecting on the increasingly digital world in which we live—and the influence the internet is having on children’s social development and interactions—I felt it timely to share some thoughts on the important topic of cyber safety.
Social media, smartphones, AI, and other emerging technologies provide children with wonderful opportunities to learn, create, and connect. However, just like face-to-face interactions, the online world can also expose children to bullying and harassment.
For the most part, being online is a positive and enriching experience for young people. But the immediacy of digital communication means that messages and images can be posted without much thought—and once something is online, it can remain there forever. This creates a digital footprint that follows them into the future.
Just like in the real world, not everyone online is a friend. While many people use digital platforms to share positivity, encouragement, and creativity, others may misuse technology to spread harmful messages—or even impersonate others.
Social Media and online Tips for Families
Social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Discord, and iMessage are incredibly popular with young people—and their use is only growing. To help your child stay safe online, consider the following tips:
- Set clear expectations and boundaries at home for device and internet use.
- Make sure your child never reveals personal information such as home address, phone number, email, or passwords.
- Encourage them never to share login details with friends.
- Review the age suitability of any app or platform your child wants to use.
- Regularly check who their contacts and followers are—this can help reduce exposure to inappropriate content or individuals.
- Educate yourself on the online issues and trends children face.
- Build an open and trusting relationship so your child feels comfortable sharing their online experiences with you.
- Reinforce the importance of keeping passwords private and updating them regularly.
- Help them understand the long-term implications of sharing images and content online.
As a school community, we are committed to working together to raise confident, informed, and safe digital citizens. If your child is experiencing problems through inappropriate online behaviour, please let us know. We want to work in partnership with families to support and protect our students, and to coach them in making safe and respectful choices online.
