Principal’s News
We are almost at the end of the semester. The term is quickly disappearing, and we have been extremely pleased with the quality of work and levels of engagement being achieved across our school. Our staff have continued to encourage and support our students in their learning to reach their next best in the classroom and through lunchtime clubs and activities.
At Kenmore South the partnerships we share with our families is the key to the success, improved student learning and wellbeing that occurs across our classrooms. It has been wonderful to see the numbers of enthusiastic parents coming into our school, volunteering in our classrooms, at events, tuckshop, attending workshops and providing our school with valuable feedback.
Parent Think Tank Feedback
This term’s Parent Think Tank will be on Thursday 19 June at 9:00am in the Library. We look forward to hearing and taking on board some of these suggestions for the benefit of our students and school community. We value the relationships we have with our parents. We aim to run a Think Tank once a term. The Parent Think Tank concept forms one of the actions of our Parent and Community Engagement Framework.
Student Reports Semester 1
The student reports will be issued via email on Friday 18 July 2025. If you do not receive your child’s report by Monday 21 July, please contact the office.
Prep 2026
On Tuesday 24 June from 6pm – 7pm we will be holding an information session for 2026 prospective prep parents in our school Library. If you have a child ready for Prep in 2026 or have a neighbour or friend with a child that would be entering Prep in 2026, please come along to our information session and find out about Prep at Kenmore South. We are looking forward to meeting new families as we prepare for Prep 2026.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week with creativity and culture, students are invited to take part in our 2025 colouring-in competition inspired by this year’s theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.” This is a chance for children to express pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through art. There are two categories: Prep–Year 2 and Years 3–6. Competition entries need to be handed in to the school office by 3pm on Friday 27 June 2025. A senior and junior school prize will be awarded for the entry that displays creativity, effort, and cultural expression during our NAIDOC Week assembly on Wednesday 16 July 2025. Let your colours tell a powerful story of strength, identity, and celebration. If your student would like to participate, colouring-in sheets are available at the office.

Coming Up at Kenmore South SS – Winter Music Concert and 2026 Prep Parent Information Night!
Dear Kenmore South Families,
We are very excited about the upcoming Winter Music Concert, which promises to be a wonderful evening celebrating the hard work and talent of our young musicians. Featuring our Junior, Intermediate and Senior Choirs, String Ensembles and Concert Bands, the concert will showcase all that our students have been learning this year under the expert guidance of our Music Dept. staff, Heather Conomos, Fiona Lougheed and James McErlain, with the wonderful support of Mrs Riby and Mrs Mansfield on choir. Music is such an important part of a rich educational experience, helping to build creativity, confidence and focus—it truly supports the development of the whole child!
We also warmly remind our community of our Prep 2026 Parent Information Night on Tuesday 24 June in our school library from 6pm. This is a great opportunity for prospective families to get a feel for Kenmore South SS, meet the school leadership team and current Prep Staff and learn more about what Kenmore South SS can offer.
We encourage current families to share this invitation with friends and neighbours who may be considering joining our school community next year. There is no need to RSVP—we look forward to welcoming everyone on the night!
Wishing everyone a great finish to the term!
Regards,
Andrew

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy). Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact Caitlin Donaghey (Head of Inclusion) cdona79@eq.edu.au
Spotlight on Hearing Impairment
Did you know that more than 1 in 6 Australians have some level of hearing loss? That means if you look around a classroom, there’s a good chance someone near you might use special ways to help them hear better.
Our Advisory Visiting Teacher - Hearing Impairment, Amanda Langdon, works closely with our students who are deaf or hard of hearing. There are many students at Kenmore Sth SS that she visits. Amanda helps them with learning, using technology, and making sure they can understand what’s being said in class — just like everyone else!
Some of the cool technology that helps people hear:
🎧 Hearing aids – tiny devices that sit behind or inside the ear and make sounds louder.
🧠 Cochlear implants – high-tech devices that help people who can't hear with hearing aids by sending sound signals straight to their brain!
📻 FM or Roger systems – microphones that a teacher wears so their voice goes straight into the student’s hearing aid or processor.
🎙️ Soundfield systems – speakers that help make the teacher's voice louder for the whole class to hear clearly.

Wonderful news!
Mrs Allardice was presented with a brand-new Microphone and Soundfield System for our school from Margaret from the Quota Club in Brisbane in conjunction with Jim Russell from The Hear Room. The Quota Club "The Lstening to Learn Program" was initiated by Quota International and has since been embraced by Quota Clubs Australia wide. The benefits in assisting students to hear in the classroom are well documented. A big thank you to Margaret and Jim for their generous gift to our school which will benefit many of our students in years to come.

We are heading towards the last few weeks of Term 2, and onwards and upwards towards the beginning of Term 3.
Last Saturday Night many of our families enjoyed a delightful evening thanks to our Trivia Team Event Coordinators Wendy and Cristyn. Thanks for another amazing evening! Wendy and Cristyn have coordinated our Trivia night event for numerous years and 2025 was their final trivia night. What a great night, and a great legacy piece to end on.

If you enjoyed the trivia night and would love to be part of the behind the scenes action next year please let us know!
We would love your assistance with not only this event in 2026 but also with our upcoming events later in the year such as:
