Principal’s News
At Kenmore South we are committed to supporting the academic, physical, emotional, and social growth of every student. Guided by our vision to develop young minds for understanding and success, we believe in creating a learning environment where every child can achieve their “new best.”.
We aim to provide meaningful opportunities both within the curriculum and beyond, encouraging our students to become critical and creative thinkers. We are fortunate to have a strong and supportive school community, with staff and parents working hand in hand to offer enriching experiences that engage our students—whether in the classroom, during lunchtime, or through before and after school programs.
This year has already been filled with great achievements. Congratulations to all our students, teams, and staff - your efforts and successes are something we are all proud of.
This term, our clubs and co-curricular activities continue to grow. Students can get involved in Art Club, Roots and Shoots Environment Club, Robotics, Chess, Just Dance, Construction Club, Drama Club and Debating. Our music programs include Junior and Senior Choirs, as well as our Instrumental Program. Running Club and our various sports opportunities, including Gala Days, will also continue.
If your child is interested in getting involved, please speak with their teacher or encourage them to visit a club during lunchtime and give it a try. These experiences can spark new interests and open doors to future opportunities.
Parking Thank You
Thank you to parents who utilise the Stop Drop and Go zone off Kersley Road. The drop off and pick ups in this area have improved and we thank parents for taking on board suggestions to arrive at 3:05pm or 3:10pm. Staff recently met with Councillor Greg Adermann and a Brisbane City Council traffic engineer to discuss further improvements to Kersley Road and the Strathspey Street areas. The meeting was productive and we look forward to the implementation of some of the suggestions. Of course, as always we encourage students to actively travel to school through walking, cycling, scootering or catching public transport.
P&C Colour Run
The 2025 Kenmore South State School Colour Run is fast approaching – Tuesday 12 August. Please keep up-to-date by reading the P&C Fete section contained within this newsletter. If every student raises just $30 we will reach the goal of raising $20 000. We are looking forward to a wonderful colourful event!
2025 School Opinion Survey
Thank you to all of those who have already completed the Parent/Caregiver Survey. If you have not had a chance to complete the survey yet, please note that the online surveys will remain open until Friday, 22 August 2025. This is your opportunity to provide feedback about what our school does well and how we can improve.
To have your say, check your email for an invitation from the Department of Education titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2025.
Term 3 Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher Interviews provide an excellent opportunity for parents to speak with teachers about their child’s learning and progress. Please refer to the information contained within this newsletter to be informed of the timelines and process for booking interviews for later this term.
Parent/carer - teacher conversations for Semester 2 2025 are being held across Kenmore South State School in Weeks 9 and 10 of Term 3.
The conversations are held to:
- discuss your child’s progress
- discuss any concerns you may have and
- develop plans to address any areas of concern
The link to book your preferred interview time will be in the Week 6 Newsletter.
If you would like a particular interview time, please ensure you book as soon as possible. The meeting times are of 10 or 15 minutes duration (dependent on year level).
The booking process will open on Friday 22 August at 3pm and close on Friday 5 September at 3pm. If you wish to make a booking after this time, please contact your child’s teacher or the school directly.
Parents/carers with a child in a class with a permanent part time teaching arrangement will only need to book one meeting time, but may request follow up with the teaching partner at the time of the meeting if required.
We recommend accessing the booking system via your computer as it may not be supported on all phones. Also ensure that you are using an updated web browser, as out-dated versions may not display the bookings website information correctly. If you have any issues or would like support, please contact the school office on 3327 0888 or Schoolzine on 1300 795 503 or via their online chat function.
All meetings will be conducted in your child’s classroom. We value a partnership with parents in providing the best possible education for children and hope that you will be available to discuss your child’s progress.

Year 6 Graduation Fundraiser at P&C Colour Fun Run
The Year 6 student leaders are selling poppers for $2 at the P&C Colour Fun Run on Tuesday 12 August (Week 5) to help raise money for the Year 6 Graduation. Please send along $2 with your student to purchase a refreshing popper after the Fun Run. To minimise the risk of lost coins, younger students will give their money to their class teacher at the beginning of the day and then have a stamp to show that they have paid in the afternoon.
ThinkUKnow Cyber Safety Sessions
On Monday, Kenmore South students thoroughly enjoyed their cyber safety sessions with our wonderful Adopt-a Cop, Senior Constable Georgia Wheatley, assisted by Senior Constables Richard De Waal and Anthony Shaw. There were some very curly questions from the students and engagement was high! Hopefully the sessions have stimulated some interesting and helpful conversations around the dinner table! For more information visit https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/

Warm regards,

Sporting News
Northern Eagles Track & Field Trials
Congratulations to all the students who proudly represented Kenmore South State School at the Northern Eagles District 10–12 Years Track and Field Trials held on 23–24 July. Our athletes displayed outstanding sportsmanship, determination and team spirit across a range of events including sprints, middle distance, jumps and throws.
We are incredibly proud of the entire team’s effort and commitment. Whether they achieved a personal best, placed in an event, or simply gave it their all on the day, each student should be commended for their dedication and courage in a competitive environment.
Special Mentions
While all competitors were outstanding, we would like to especially acknowledge a few standout performances:
- Lauren J broke not one but two district records, setting new benchmarks in the 12 Girls Shot Put (9.60m) and Discus (29.18m). An incredible achievement!
- Khloe M had a sensational meet, winning the 11 Girls 100m (14.01), 200m (28.86) and High Jump (1.40m)—also breaking the district record in the high jump!
- Harrison J impressed with a 1st place in the 11 Boys 100m, 2nd in the 200m, and a top 3 finish in high jump.
- Ruth C and Ben C both earned multiple top-three finishes in their respective track and field events.
- Leon R claimed a strong 2nd place in the 10 Boys 1500m.
These achievements are a testament to the hard work and preparation our athletes have put in over the season.
A big thank you also goes to the staff and families who supported the students throughout the trials—your encouragement makes a huge difference.
Well done, Team Kenmore South!
Prep–Year 3 Sports Day Wrap-Up!
On Friday 25th July, our Prep to Year 3 students participated in a fantastic day of fun, fitness and friendly competition at our annual Junior Sports Day.
The morning began with year-level sprints and class relay races, where students showcased their speed and teamwork. After the sprints, it was Kama who held a narrow lead, sitting 4 points ahead of Kutha—a strong start that set the scene for a tight competition.
From 11am to 1pm, students rotated through four engaging activities including a throws event, ballgames, agility courses, running, and jumping challenges. The rotations were full of energy and excitement, with students enthusiastically taking on each station.
As the points were tallied, Kutha nudged ahead during the rotations, ultimately taking out the win with a total of 784 points. Kama followed closely in second with 745 points, and Keda finished a strong third with 724 points.
Congratulations to all students for their brilliant participation, enthusiasm, and team spirit throughout the day. It was a joy to watch so many smiling faces and hear the cheers of encouragement echoing around the oval.
Well done, everyone!

Brisbane City Council Safer Schools Program
School Zone Parking
Parking in accordance with all road rules and signage is important to keep our children and other road users safe. Unfortunately, Brisbane City Council has received an increase in the number of reports of illegal parking around our school. As a result, our school has been added to Council’s Safer Schools Program this term.
What does this mean?
Brisbane City Council’s Parking Compliance Officers will be actively patrolling the streets surrounding our school over the coming term to encourage safer parking behaviours. These patrols will be conducted on foot and in highly visible Community Safety and Regulation vehicles that can identify alleged offences using Automatic Number Plate Recognition and GPS software. Please be kind – they have a job to do.
What are the common parking signs around schools?
A guide to common parking signs around school zones can be found on Council’s website by searching the term ‘School Parking’.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students and other road users. If you wish to discuss the matter further, please contact Curtis Boyle, Parking Supervisor, on 3027 4337.

Success for Sasha C from 2B
We are proud to share that Sasha C from 2B recently represented Australia as a student of MiniBoss Business School at the Startup World Cup Championship, held in the Maldives in July 2025.
