Spotlight on Technologies
At Kenmore South our students have been diving into the exciting world of Digital and Design Technologies! From building robots to designing 3D models, our learners have been developing important skills that will help them become the problem-solvers and creators of the future.
Robotics Fun
Our classrooms have been buzzing with activity as students explore the fascinating world of robotics! Using beginner-friendly robots like Bee-Bots and LEGO EV3, students have been learning how to program their robots to move, light up, and even complete fun challenges. It’s been amazing to watch teamwork, creativity, and logical thinking all come together.
Coding Adventures
Through fun platforms like Scratch and Blockly, students have been learning the basics of coding – the language of computers. Whether it’s creating their own games, animations, or solving digital puzzles, they’re building important computational thinking skills while having a great time.
3D Printing Magic
Our 3D printer has been a big hit! Students have designed their own keyrings and classroom tools using simple 3D modelling software. Watching their digital designs come to life layer by layer has been a great experience and a wonderful way to learn about design, measurement, and precision.
Creativity Meets Technology
It’s not just about code and machines – our students have also been exploring digital art and design. They’ve used iPads and laptops to create beautiful digital drawings, posters, and even animations, learning how technology can be used to express ideas in new and exciting ways.
Problem Solvers in the Making
Digital and Design Technologies is all about solving problems, thinking creatively, and trying new things. Whether they’re inventing a new product, debugging a bit of code, or working together to build a robot, our students are building skills that will help them not just in school, but in life.
We are so proud of our students and their curiosity, creativity, and courage to explore this ever-changing digital world. We can’t wait to see what they’ll design, code, and create next!

Celebrating Support Staff & Teacher Aides
This week we extend gratitude to our support staff, office team and teacher aides who make up such an important part of our school’s environment and culture. Our teaching teams and leadership team would not be the same without the resilience, persistence, patience and professionalism our support staff and teacher aides demonstrate every day.
The staff enjoyed celebrating with our teacher aides and support staff this week at a special breakfast.

Book Week
A huge thankyou to our creative students and staff who celebrated the wonderful world of reading at our annual book week parade. Students also enjoyed the writing workshops with Dr Cameron Stelzer, with many students purchasing his books to read at leisure.
Planning for 2026
The exciting process of planning for the 2026 school year is now underway and once again we are asking for your assistance in providing detailed information about your child’s next steps. Last week ALL Prep to Year 5 families received an ‘intention to re-enrol form’. Please return this to the office as soon as possible.

Thursday 11th September is R U OK? Day, a national day that reminds us to check in with others and start meaningful conversations. To mark the occasion, we’ll be holding a Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser before school at The Lookout. All proceeds will go towards supporting our school’s Chaplaincy Program.
Volunteers Needed!
If you are available to help with cooking or serving on the morning, we’d love your support. Please contact Denise dko10@eq.edu.au if you can lend a hand. Come along, grab a snag, and take a moment to ask someone, “R U OK?” Because a conversation could change a life.

Instrumental Music News
Band West Workshops for Year 5 and Year 6.
In Week 4 of this term our Year 5 and Year 6 Band students were invited to participate in a 2-day Band workshop with musicians from other schools in the Western Suburbs. These workshops were held at Brookfield State School from 8:30am – 2:30pm each day. Forming a very large concert band, students were given new and challenging pieces of music to try and rehearsed by the conductors from Kenmore South SS, Chapel Hill SS, Pullenvale SS, Brookfield and Fig Tree Pocket SS. As well as extending their playing skills, students enjoyed playing group games and making new friends. The aim of these workshops was to inspire and motivate students! Hopefully parents have noticed an increase in home practice!
“Band West, an unforgettable experience. It brought together incredible musicians of our school and others in the region. From the moment the first note rang out, the hall atmosphere was alive with energy. Each piece was a powerful mix of passion and precision with students pouring their hearts into every single note. The variety of music would keep you on your toes. One moment, you would be swaying to a soulful melody, the next you were tapping your feet to an upbeat rhythm. Band West has proved that when young musicians come together, magic happens”. Samantha M Yr 6 (Band Captain)
“The thing I loved about the West Band workshop was that we got to play some amazing new pieces such as Awesome Sauce and Unleash the Dragon. The band teachers were nice and I also had a lot of fun playing with other schools.” James T Yr 5
WESTSIDE STRINGS COLLECTIVE – SCHERZO & CANZONA STRINGS WORKSHOPS
In Week 3 of this term some of our most advanced Year 5 and Year 6 Strings students were invited to participate in one of two Strings workshops with players from other local schools. These workshops were held at Graceville State School, with rehearsals during the day and culminating in two afternoon concerts to conclude the event. Students formed a string orchestra of approximately 80 musicians and worked with conductors from other schools to present 4 or 5 new pieces. This was a wonderful opportunity to extend their musical skills and work with different conductors. I’m sure as well as the musical benefits, many new friendships were formed. Thank you to parents for your support of these extension opportunities. We look forward to more successful workshops in 2026.
Instrumental Music Program Recruitment for 2026
Thank you to those parents who attended our recent information session for Instrumental Music. If you are a parent of a current Year 2 student interested in STRINGS for your child in 2026 or a current parent of a Year 3 student interested in BAND for next year, please remember to return the Expression of Interest Form to the school office by Wednesday 10th September. Your child will then be included in the next stage of the recruitment process.
Expression of Interest Forms are available, please email hcono1@eq.edu.au or floug1@eq.edu.au to receive this.
Year 2 and Year 3 students who have returned this form by the due date will be sitting an auditory perception test in first session on Thursday 11 September. As places in the programs are limited, please make sure to return the form in time to avoid disappointment.
Thank you for your interest in our music programs.
